Parlour Room

This charming and chintzy ground-floor bedroom suite with its English Baker linen curtains, French polished fire-surround and original wooden shutters is also disabled-friendly. The carpet, called “Hobart”, is a reproduction of the 1830’s pattern found in the Hobart Barracks. The ensuite is finished in a mellow sandstone tone.

Green Room

This room floods with early-morning light. The Georgian Green wall color was tinted especially for Epsom House by Porters Paints. The cast iron four-poster bed is an early colonial piece from northern Tasmania. Beautiful needlework, cosy colonial armchairs and Royal Albert china complete the picture.

The private bathroom houses a splendid collection of English, Dutch and Chinese blue and white china.

Mountain View Suite

So-named for its view of both Mounts Wellington and Dromedary, it occupies half of the top floor of the house. The feminine-touch Colefax and Fowler wallpaper is an ideal backdrop for the framed needlework collection.

Pride of place goes to a tea-cloth embroidered by Jacqui’s grandmother in anticipation of her naval-officer husband’s return from war. Unfortunately he never returned -he was Chief Gunnery Officer of H.M.S. Hood and was lost with the ship when it was sunk by the Bismarck in 1941. The cloth incorporates signal flags and the ships on which he served, worked in lace.

The chaise is also a family heirloom – it belonged to Geoff’s great-grandmother.

The elegant ensuite is well-supplied with a basket of “throne-reading”.

Pontville View Room

This room affords a view of Pony Hill and the village of Pontville, largely unchanged since the 1840’s. Rich burgundy and tan hues and an early colonial print collection add to the historic ambience.

This room accommodates up to three people, either in one queen-size bed and a king- single bed, or three king-single beds.

All our bedrooms have either king or queen size beds with ensuites or private bathroom. Guests can make tea and coffee in bone china cups in their rooms. The bathrooms all offer hand-made Tasmanian soaps and are equipped with hairdryers. Digital TV with DVD and radio alarms are included in each room and Wi-fi is available throughout the house.

GUEST FACILITIES

Disabled guests can be catered for on the ground floor and there is an inclinator (chair lift) to the 1st floor Ballroom and bedrooms with a second wheelchair- accessible powder-room.

The ground floor Drawing Room is available to guests. Enjoy a cosy fireside drink or browse through nineteenth century editions of “The Mercury” newspaper. Of course we also supply today’s newspaper. 

Guests may also avail themselves of our library. The collection features Art, Architecture and Design, Music, History, Literature, Travel and, of course, Gardening.

Lighter reading is also catered for by a large collection of novels and magazines.

Wander through our grounds for our take on a Georgian garden. You’ll never be far from the sound of running water either from the formal ponds, or Dogwash Pond in our Australian native garden.
